On March 7, Emma Halpin, President of The Pas Kinettes, finished swearing in the remaining members of the newly chartered Kinette Club of The Pas. The club also completed the installation of their club’s executive members. The Pas Kinettes’ Charter took place on February 18th while National President Terri MacCannell and CF Liason Tammie Corbett were in our district. District Governor Dave Roberts and Deputy Governor Kevin Carlson were also in attendance to help out with their ceremony. In anticipation of National Day of KINdness, and to increase our online social media presence all year around, Kin Canada has released a strategy for clubs to follow online. This will ensure that the Kin-related posts you make on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are seen by as many people as possible, which helps us share our stories among our membership and to the public at large. This strategy focuses on the use of hashtags (#hashtag) and handles (@handle). All posts that contain a certain hashtag, (#kincanada for example) are grouped together, so by doing a search of “#kincanada”, every post from coast to coast that includes that hashtag will be displayed. The National President of Kin Canada, Terri MacCannell, will be paying a visit to District 2 from Feb 15 – 18. She will be arriving in Winnipeg on the evening of February 15, and a meet and greet will be hosted by the All Saints Kinsmen at 30 Chesterfield Avenue, with all Kinsmen and Kinettes welcome to attend. The following day, she will be traveling to The Pas to enjoy the Northern Manitoba Trappers’ Festival and take part in the festivities. The Kinsmen club of Vermilion Bay is hard at work preparing for the 52nd annual Vermilion Bay Kin Karnival, which will kick off on February 22 and run to February 25. It will be a busy four days packed with fun events for the entire family, kicking off with Kinette Family Night on Thursday night and ending with the main event on Sunday, the Kin Family Fish Derby. Other highlights include the Kin Karnival Queen contest where three local teens will compete for the crown on Friday Feb 23, a Smash Brothers gaming tournament on Saturday the 24th, and many other fun events like curling funspiels, spaghetti suppers, and dances. On January 27, the Kinsmen Club of Grandview presented the Grandview Rec. Commission with a donation of $20,000.00!!! This donation is going towards the new community building in Wilson Park which will house a new concession , accessible washrooms and shower facility. Without the help from Community groups like the Grandview Kinsmen, projects such as this one would not be possible.
Your district executive got together on January 20 in Winnipeg to hold their annual mid-term conference. On the agenda were updates from Governor Dave, Vice Governors, Deputy Governors, and Directors, updates from Kin Canada and the National Board of Directors, discussion around updating certain aspects of the district awards, and planning for National Day of KINdness, Spring Zones, and National Convention. All in all, it was a productive weekend, with a great opportunity for the team to come together and share ideas. Following the relocation of former Social Media Director David Harmon to District 3, Danny Halpin has agreed to fill the role of Social Media Director for the remainder of the 2017-2018 Kin year. Danny has been a proud member of Kin Canada since 2013. He gained a fair amount of social media experience in summer 2017 with his “Marathon for CF” campaign, and hopes to bring that same energy and experience to this new role.
